Minutes: 2/7/23

Moroni Elementary Community Council Meeting

February 7, 2023

In attendance: Chelsea, Rhett, Aaron, Rylie, and Stacey

The council reviewed the minutes from last month. Chelsea motioned to approve and Stacey seconded.

The council discussed the upcoming year trust land plan. There is a district budget for iPads and there are options for purchasing new ones. The school can buy from their budget or add to Capital projects list for the district. We are waiting for answers from February’s board meeting. We will be able to get a better idea for funding options at the next meeting. We will look for any technology not being used around the school to cut down on costs. iPads cost about $375 with screen protector and case. Cases with keyboards need to be purchased for upper grades. This will cost about $9,500. This is a need for upper grades because laptop labs are not receiving updates anymore and new laptops are expensive. The after school snack budget will stay the same, birthday budget will reduce to $800-$900, and the purchase of IXL Language Arts for upper grades was added to the budget. The council discussed possibly paying for training for TA's who run the skills room.

The council decided to delay signing the council signature form until the next meeting.

Stacey reviewed changes to the Parent Compact with the council. It was revised for easier language, quicker to read, and more to the point. She still needs teacher feedback so the council will vote on the revisions at the next meeting.

Stacey shared about the school’s plans for the upcoming Red Ribbon Week. The theme is “Celebrate Life, Say No to Drugs.” The council also discussed Parent Teacher Conferences and how to get parents more involved. One suggestion was a drawing for prizes for attending parent teacher conferences.

The Community concern reported was in regards to stray dogs on and around school property. They discussed attending the Moroni City Council meeting to share these concerns.

The meeting was adjourned.
