August School Counselor Newsletter

Welcome back to school!

We have great things planned for this year and are excited to see our students excel. This month our school counseling lessons will focus on our four school rules and how following them will reduce our anxieties and stresses while at school.

Four School Rules:

1) Listen and follow directions.

2) Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.

3) Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

4) Respect your classmates and teacher.

We are also doing some mindfulness lessons which will provide tools of deep breathing and grounding ourselves so we can stay in the present and be the best students we can be. Below are some breathing techniques you can practice with your children at home. If you show your children these pictures they will be able to explain how to breath for each one.

In February we will focus on the letters P, Q, R and S. These letters represent important values in our ABC's to Success. "P" stands for Problem Solving, which will allow students to recognize problems when they arise and find solutions to those problems in order to rise above them and overcome them. "Q" stands for Quality Work and Effort, which teaches us how to do and give our best in all that we do. "R" stands for Respect, which is a core value to hope to instill in every student at Moroni Elementary School. We respect ourselves, our classmates, our teachers and our school. "S" stands for Self-Confidence , the ability to believe in ourselves and trust that we can do hard things. We will be reading the following books: Problem solving: What do you do with a problem Quality Work and Effort: Failure Friday Respect: The Paperbag Princess Self-Confidence: What I Tell Myself First The class with the highest attendance in January was Miss Johnson's 4th Grade Black Class with 92.67%! Next month we will be having our Career Exploration Day. If you would like to come and teach our students about your job. Please contact me! We would love to have our students parents talk about what is takes to do various occupations.
