Minutes: 1/9/24

Moroni Elementary Community Council Meeting

January 9, 2024

January 9, 2024

In attendance: Stacey, Chelsea, Aaron, Brennen, and Kelly

The council reviewed the minutes from the last meeting. Brennen motioned to approve, Stacey seconded.

The council planned to have a data discussion about academic needs; however, testing is ongoing. It was proposed that the council add a meeting in February to review data and academic needs. Stacey motioned to approve, Aaron seconded. All were in favor. The council will meet February 6th at 2:45 pm.

The council discussed the TSSP and Trustlands plan. Trustlands pays for employee salaries. TSSP pays for a variety of activities: Birthday treats, attendance rewards, pirate day, the skills room coach, computer lab TA, and room dividers. Possible other expenses include things to go with the school safety grant. Stacey will have the plan written out by the next meeting. IT is petitioning for a technology specialist. Each school would need to contribute from their budget to pay the salary.

The Digital Citizenship plan is the same as last year and is on our school website. The school uses BARK to monitor internet usage. IT keeps student information safe.

As part of our School Safety plan, the school practices each of the safety drills throughout the school year. Moroni will participate in a reunification drill in Spring of 2024. The school needs more detailed safety and security procedures for subs, along with keys to ensure their classrooms are locked. The council agreed to put this topic on a future agenda to review and give feedback.

The School Improvement Plan was emailed out to the council for review.

The council reviewed upcoming family engagement and school events. The MoroniStrong group has arranged a Wellness Day where doctors, nurses, and dentists will provide free screenings at the school for students and parents. Red Ribbon Week is the last week of January. Parent Teacher Conferences are February 6 & 7. Literacy night will be held at the end of February. Career Day is in March. Digital Citizenship Night is in April. Dance Festival takes place in May. The school will be starting an afterschool program 2 days a week.

Community Concern: A parent expressed concern about the high number of students in each class at Moroni Elementary.

Stacey shared with the council about a security concern that has been addressed over the last month or two. There was a gentleman from the community spending a lot of time near and on school property. It was referred to the sheriff’s department and the school is working with law enforcement. The school is ordering no trespassing signs and will post them around the school property.

Chelsea motioned to close the meeting. Brennen seconded the motion and all approved.
