January 2025 School Counselor Newsletter
Happy 2025!
So far in our school year we have completed the first four lessons in the Why Try? Program: Reality Ride, Labels, Defense Mechanisms and Motivation Formula. Throughout the rest of the school year we will do the remaining six lessons.
This month we will start lesson five which is called "Climbing Out." It teaches about both positive peer pressure and negative peer pressure. Students will learn what that looks like and develop the ability to identify how to avoid negative peer pressure. They will also learn to recognize what kind of friend they are to others by identifying if they are using positive or negative peer pressure. These skills will help them stay out of hot water!
We will read the books The Emperor's New Clothes and Big Bad Bruce.
Regular school attendance is essential for academic success! If a student misses just two days of school each month, they will miss more than a full year of education by the time they graduate.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
